£127.50, $169.99, €179.99. $269.99AUD. We’ve just released the price for the JooVuu X price and I can imagine some people will think this is way to high, and some people may think it is too low. Let me tackle why the price is not aimed at the sub £100 market and why this camera is still a fantastic deal.
We changed our minds so much on this pricing from being outrageously low, to being outrageously high. We then settled on this price for a few key reasons: It provides value for money for the consumer, allows us to invest money in our research and design for future cameras, and allows us to continually develop the camera and push its capabilities further and further.
In an ideal, we would sell this camera for £10 more than what we create it at, have 0% faulty rate, and we would have no customer support. This means we could literally collect our money and that’s it. Sadly we cannot. Pricing is always difficult as we have to balance so many factors and variables. I’ll outline just some of them below:
– Replacement of faulty units
– Investment for future products
– Development of the current camera
– Recoup development costs
– Recoup ‘run’ costs
– Research future products (products/concepts that never see the light of day)
– Overheads (electricity, water, gas, rent, internet etc)
– Customer Service
– Website costs
– Infrastructure costs
– Annual payments to the camera Gods
As you can see there is a LOT to take into account. But the biggest concern is the balance between all of this. For instance if we price our camera at a low price, we know we’ll sell a lot but we will not have the money to do what we need to do for investment and support. If we price our camera very highly, we’ll have far more money per sale to invest, but we won’t sell what we need to, and as such, cannot invest to the levels we want to. As you can see, this is just a game of balancing.
The biggest concern and problem was/is returns, replacements, and repairs – and this is what is going to affect the price the most – however, we now think you get the best deal possible. This is something that has been stressing me out for the best part of 3 months, and causing me to get even less than my usual 5 hours for the past three weeks or so. We’ve looked at solutions ranging to transferring manufacturing to Hong Kong, Germany, Poland, Hungary, plus other countries to return shipping solutions. We’ve even looked at ‘grey’ area solutions. We’ve looked at…probably close to 40 different solutions – and whilst the warranty section of the camera I am very happy with, I wanted to bring attention to an area that is not often mentioned but absolutely hammers any reseller based outside of China. However, we now think we have gotten a pretty good deal which we’re hoping to increase even further.
I’ll go into a bit of a sidetrack/explanation of the warranty as this is one of the biggest concerns when pricing a product.
Warranties, guarantees, returns, and replacements. The fun side of business as I like to refer to it. It’s what every customer looks for (or should) when buying an expensive product, because unlike a block of wood, electronics have so many parts and things that can go wrong. We’re pretty damn confident about the JooVuu X. We’ve built a pretty solid camera and as such we want to stand by it. We’ve been comparing our warranties with other car camera manufacturers as well larger camera manufacturers such as Nikon, Pentax, Canon, Sony, etc. They all offer 1 year warranties, even on their DSLR range on some cameras as high as £600. Well that I do not agree with. So this is what we are doing.
– 12 months of retailer based warranty. You send it back to wherever you received it and they replace/repair it for you.
– 4 months of international warranty. You send it to the address provided and we replace the camera for you.
This means you effectively get 16 months (1.33 years) warranty. The 4 months COULD mean we send you the repaired camera (I’m being honest) but this would be in rare situations, 99% of the time you will get a brand new camera. This is how much we are standing by our product. This is true for all retailers and us. If you buy it from a reseller in USA you will still get the same warranty as if you buy from someone in Germany.
We hope that puts to bed some questions about the JooVuu X and we hope this further shows you how serious we are.
So back to the price. Our main concern was we wanted people dedicated to the JooVuu X who have a proven track record in customer service, support, and camera love. We think we have got the best damn people so far. Jon (Pier28), Chris (DashCamCentral Australia), Robert (Callargy DashCams), Peter (CoolSTF) – each one is fantastic and has a proven track record. This means, anything is wrong with the camera and you know you are getting fantastic support and service. Getting these incredible people on board has given us a huge confidence boost and we’re ecstatic to be working with them, they’re already so on the ball and their knowledge is even amazing us.
This product is NOT a cheap Chinese camera so as such we are not trying to be a cheap Chinese camera. However, with this price, you should expect a quality product, with quality features, and quality support, and that’s what we are doing. Warranties that actually mean something, a product that has gone through 5 tests before it reaches you to make sure it works, support that actually answers and solves your questions, and above all, people love and care deeply about what they are selling. This is what JooVuu is about. Welcome to the JooVuu X!
